Can I feed a cockatiel fruits and vegatables only?

Question:Or do they need seed as well?

Answers:
They need the protein from the seeds.

yeh they can also eat seed, look at ur local supermarket
They need seeds... and roughage... like shell grit or cuttle fish.
They need seeds, they love the hanging seed bells... the ones where the seeds are all held together by honey. They also need cuttle bones to sharpen their beaks, it will keep them busy, because as they get older they get start to squwark very loudly VERY early in the mornig. The more toys the better.
I think your bird will get ill if you only feed it fruits and vegetables...
It seems like Bird pellets are the best to feed your cockatiel-- Please go to this site for more information

Bird pellets, like dog or cat foods, are formulated to provided all of the nutrition a bird needs in an easy to handle form that doesn't permit a bird to pick and choose only its favorite foods at the expense of good nutrition.
Some birds can be quite fussy. You should give your bird a bit of variety - the same thing day in and day out can be boring. I would have seed in their cage during the day and if they like fruit and vegies, then use that as special treats. My cockatiel is quite fussy and it takes him awhile to try things but i would definately feed they seed and pellets and the other food as treats. Hope this helps.
I wouldn't.. - pellet food is great- also cockatiels and with all birds should have vitamins. - they need a balanced diet else your bird can get sick.
You need to give them a little variety. If you feed them fruits make sure that it is not too acidic. If you feed it an apple, you must REMOVE THE CORE-MOST IMPORTANTLY THE SEEDS. The seeds are POISONOUS.

Mine likes bananas, apples and absolutely loves lettuce.

They need the seed in order to get the proper nutrients.
Cockatiels should be fed pellets made for birds, some seeds, and fruits and vegetables. A diet of only fruits and vegetables would not have enough carbohydrates and would have no fats and would be low in certain vitamins and minerals. It would be hard to balance. I would not try it. You could not live exclusively on fruits and vegetables, either.

BTW, seeds aren't "poisonous." In moderation they are a good source of fats and carbs.
would the bird get any protein out of just veggies and fruit? NO! you need to find a pellet that would suffice the bird as well.

Good Luck!
