How do I know if I really want a cockatiel?

Question:

Answers:
Okay, first lets cover the negatives:
- It's cage will need to be cleaned at least once a week.
- You'll need to buy food for it (very cheap really)
- Can be noisy-ish
- Need's time out of it's cage with you, which might mean locking other pets otu of the room.

Okay, still with me? Positives:
- Very smart animals, can learn to speak and do tricks and such.
- Love human contact (if it's been handraised)
- Lovely personalities
- Live for a long time (10-15 years I believe)

Uuum, yeah, so that's a pretty lame list, so I'll just tell you about my cockatiel, Piggy. I've had him for just over 4 years, he was hand raised, and was not fully weaned when I got him, so I had to feed him with a syringe (cute!). He is a real character, and I often hear him talking to himself. He says hello to himself all the time, that's his favourite thing, and gets particularly excited when you come home (when I pull up the driveway I can already hear him shouting at the top of his lungs - "HELLO PIGGY!! HELLO PIGGY!"). His cage is next to the tv in the lounge room, so whenever he isn't getting enough attention because everyone is watching the tv he tries to compete with the tv, getting louder and louder as we turn up the sound; cute, but highly annoying :P. Piggy is a sucker for cuddles and loves wriggling in hair, nibbling on ear-rings and head scratches. He has complete trust in humans and you can have his whole head encased in your hand and he is happy as poo. Anyway, so that's my Piggy...

However, I do know someone who got a hand raised cockatiel, but from a dodgy breeder, who was keeping all the birdies in a tiny cage together so they were attacking each other, and she has never trusted humans, so make sure your cockatiel is from a good breeder, go in and see the conditions, and meet the birdy properly before you think about buying it. If you want a companion bird, it has to be one that has been raised properly to trust humans. :)

Do you want to commit 70 years to the care of an animal?
they only live for 10 years, its your decision think about it before buying one.
take a puiz
i have one he is sweet he attached to me the first day i got him
I am getting one. I don't mind cleaning up after it and I will spend at least 2 hours a day with it. If you want a great pet you can teach tricks to then you got the right bird. They are loving and affectionite!
