We have three quakers and a sunday conure. We got one quaker at 7months, one at 10 months and the last at 6 years (we adopted the last two). They are all wonderful birds. They have amazing personalities, they all talk, and were all pretty easily trained. The 6 yr. old, Lily, was never held or touched. She sat in or on her cage, in a room all by herself, all day long. I thought when i first brought her home she was gonna take off my finger!! But after the first week, she was "stepping up" and perching on our shoulders! The other two took about two or three weeks to hand tame. Quakers are very inquisitive. After a few days he's gonna start wondering what your doing, and most likley want to be "helping" you! 9 months is fine. If he's not hand tame he just may take more time (and patience) to train. Quakers can live up to 20 years, so 9 months is still an infant!! You are going to have so much fun with your new baby. We laugh at these birds everyday. All three of ours are snuggle bunnys, and will sit with us for hours. Good luck!
I used to live in St. Pete, Florida. Where Quakers are wild. And they are messy wild birds
I couldn't imagine trying to cage one of these animals
I don't think they would be happy caged up
You can be of any age, but you've got to be prepared to take care of them.
I think its best to get them just weaned when they are younger they will bond better with you. However, I just took in a re-homed a 3 yr old female and she is as sweet as can be. Quakers are very intelligent and if patience is used can become very sweet companions no matter what the age, depending on the back ground they are coming from.
If the quaker is hand fed and you can handle it then nine months is not too old.
if not then look for a younger quaker
the optimum age is when the quaker is about 2 weeks from being weened (2 feedings a day) then you finish hand feeding it for a closer bond.
The quaker can be a loyal pet but needs
daily attention. should start to mimick at 9 to 12 months. great talking bird
