My parakeet...?

Question:My parakeet does this thing with his foot where he opens his wing slightly and like drags his foot down it. Is he itching? preening? help!

Answers:
Sounds like a stretch or an itch/preen. Totally normal! I actually used this behavior to teach some of my birds to talk! Every time they did it, I'd say "pretty bird", so now when they are done preening, they say "pretty bird!".

My bird does this to. Its a mix with an itch and a preen. I asked my vet about it and she said it's natural.
It's normal. And yeah it's itching/preening. And I guess also stretching? But yeah, don't worry it's normal.
haha. i think mine does this to stretch [=
Parakeets do this for a number of reasons, sometimes it's to preen, sometimes it's to scratch and sometimes it's too stretch. Sometimes it's all three, but any way you put it it's completely natural!
Your bird is stretching, nothing to worry about...
