I've be denied my mortgage because of fruitless credit, but don't know where on earth it's from. Advice please?
My boyfriend and I have just be turned down for a mortgage because of my bad credit. When I was a sector time student (at aged 20) I incurred a debt of lb800 in outstanding council tax which I afterwards paid through a debt collectors, making monthly payments. Four years later is nearly adjectives paid back and I enjoy never missed a payment. Is it this that has given me a bleak credit and what can I do about it? Will the bad credit enjoy been registered by the council or the debt collectors? Who do I need to phone to try and sort it out? Sorry to dance on but I am really inexperienced in this area.

If you go to www.anualcreditreport.com you can get a free copy of your credit report from the major three credit institutions. It does not require you to sign up for any service or anything. If you pull these... you can see what you have negatively affecting your credit and try to fix it. They will not donate you your actual credit number without a small fee... but if you see anything to be exact on your account that has serious delinqunicy.... or other slow or non payment status... you can pretty much figure out what is getting you turned down. Some companies will deny you base on not only poor reports, but also on number of credit lines you have applied for and/or number of existing credit lines within relation to your income.
It is always good to keep hold of up with your credit scores. If you see an incorrect entry you can contest it ( spawn sure it really is incorrect). If you stagger when you apply for these reports... you can check your credit three times a year and see if suspicious activity is showing up.
