Why didn't anyone reflect of have the policy simply wages sour the "bad" mortgages?
The lenders would get their money, people would stay within their houses. It would have probably cost less overall than the nonsensical bailouts made to the plump cats in the financial industry who constructed this underregulated house of cards in the first place.
If the Federal government did this, what do you think would come to pass? Most people would stop payment on their mortgages expecting the governing body to buy them a home. Also, it was not the fat cats within the financial industry that created this house of cards but Congress with it's deregulation and wanting to be "fair" to everyone whether or not they could afford what they were buying.
The single fair thing to do consequently would be to give all the RESPONSIBLE homeowners who didn't bring back into debt they couldn't afford and continued to make their house payments, an equal amount of cash or rates credit.
It is not the job of the government to bail general public out of their own stupidity.
"> Such a discouraging plan would reward bad behavior and encourage more of it. I rewarded off my mortgage early. Why should my tariff dollars go to pay past its sell-by date some bum who bought more house than they could afford leaving me with the bill?
